S.P. Kothari is Gordon Y Billard Professor of Accounting and Finance at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Most recently, from 2019 to 2021 he served as Chief Economist and Director of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. He recently received one of India’s highest civilian honours, the Padma Shri on December 8th 2021 from the President of India, for his work in the field of Economics. Kothari is a recipient of numerous other awards, including Honorary Doctorates from London Business School, University of Cyprus, University of Technology, Sydney and American Accounting Association’s Distinguished Contributions to the Accounting Literature award.
In academia, Kothari was deputy dean of MIT Sloan School of Management (2010-15) and previously he headed the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at MIT. In addition, he Co-Chaired the Board of Governors of Asia School of Business, Kuala Lumpur, served as faculty director of the MIT-India Program and edited the world-renowned academic publication Journal of Accounting & Economics. In 2008-09, Kothari was global head of equity research for Barclays Global Investors (acquired by BlackRock); he was a director of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) (2015-19); and he has consulted extensively on valuation and reporting, risk management, auditing, and management compensation.
Uma is a career banker, having retired as Executive Director at Reserve Bank of India (RBI), after serving RBI for 37 years. Uma is well versed in financial regulation, cyber security and data analytics. She has served as the Co- Chair of the committees relating to Financial Regulation and as a member of the Audit and Supervision groups of several International financial bodies. On the national front, she was the Chairperson of the Standing Committees on Cyber security and Data analytics. She was also the head of the interdepartmental group to explore the feasibility of introducing Central Bank digital currency. Uma is presently an Independent Director on the Boards of Karnataka Bank as well as IDBI Capital Markets and Securities Ltd.
Uma brings a vast repertoire of experience across banking supervision, currency management, urban bank regulation, cyber security and administration etc., in addition to more than two decades of board level experience in Government and Quasi-Government organisations. During her 37-year employment with RBI, Uma was nominated as an RBI Board representative on a number of reputed financial institutions - Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, UCO Bank, Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt. Ltd. (BRBNMPL), Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd.(SPMCIL) and ECGC Ltd.
Dr. Kaul is the Managing Director of EbixCity, a recent healthcare venture of EbixCash that is dedicated to setting up a chain of smart hospitals nationwide, with the goal of providing end-to-end healthcare services. Before EbixCity, Dr. Sameer Kaul practiced as a Sr. Consultant Surgical & Clinical Oncology at Apollo Cancer Institute, New Delhi since 1997. He also acts as the Director, Surgical Oncology at the Centenary Cancer Centre since 2011, and as an advisor at many other reputed cancer centres, not only in India but overseas too. Dr. Kaul is one of the core founders, besides heading Onkaulogy Kombine, a healthcare organization that has a distinguished record of achievements in the field of surgical and other oncology related services. Dr. Kaul specialises in Breast cancer surgery and treatment but he is known nationwide for his record and expertise in all areas of oncological surgery like Head and Neck Surgery, Gastrointestinal surgery, Soft Tissue and Bone surgery, Genitourinary as well as endoscopies and other miscellaneous procedures.
Dr. Kaul has countless accolades to his name. Dr. Kaul introduced the concept of Primary reconstruction for breast cancer in India and also initiated and popularized the use of ‘ports’ for cancer patients. He is credited for introducing and popularizing the use of latest technology of Radio frequency Ablation to treat liver, lung breast tumors in India. He is the Founder & President of the Breast Cancer Patients Benefit Foundation (BCPBF) in India and since over 10 years, he has been organizing regular cancer camps to bring early detection and treatment to patients who can’t reach out to hospitals. He is a national level spokesperson for global health issues like the Anti-Tobacco campaign and Breast Cancer Awareness. Many conferences, medical journals and studies stand by his name.
Dr. Kaul holds multiple medical degrees including MBBS, MS Surgical Oncology and Fellow(London) Surgical Oncology. His medical career experience includes distinguished stints with Tata Memorial Hospital, Nanavati Hospital, Jaslok Hospital, KEM Hospital and Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai besides Apollo Hospital, Delhi and the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital in London.
Purnima Nijhawan is the Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of our Company. She is an associate of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in commerce from Panjab University. She has previously worked with Uflex Limited as their secretarial manager. She joined our subsidiary, EbixCash Word Money Limited, on February 12, 2021 as senior manager- company secretary cum compliance officer. She joined our Company on November 10, 2021.
